Store Manager

 

POSITION TITLE:                          STORE MANAGER

                                                         

REPORTS TO:                               DISTRICT MANAGER

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

Plans and directs the staffing and operations of a Food Basics Store in Bridgeport, CT to maximize sales and profit, productivity, inventory, and customer satisfaction.  Leads, coaches and develops a successful team of Assistant Managers and Store Associates to surpass the customer’s expectations for service, safety, store standards, and product quality to optimize operating results.  Communicates, evaluates, and ensures the timely and efficient execution of all operating initiatives and standards, and ensures compliance to all Company programs, applicable laws and regulatory requirements and standards.  Oversees the selection, training, development, Performance Management, and Succession Planning for the store team.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

·        Assists in the planning and development of an annual operating budget and business plan for a store within the geographic district that aligns with Company goals and objectives.  Assists in setting store goals for sales volume and profit, margins, labor, shrink, accidents, and other controllable expenses.

·        Implements the strategic plan and ensures its execution and timely follow-through at store level.

·        Sets the direction for the store’s performance and communicates goals, expectations, standards, and policies to ensure business processes are effective, consistent, and standardized.

·        Monitors weekly, period, and quarterly store results and performance against budget.

·        Leads a team of Assistant Managers and Store Associates to consistently achieve budgeted results and maximize customer satisfaction.  Develops effective action plans for under-performing departments.

·        Creates and maintains a customer-focused environment by ensuring the immediate follow-up and resolution of all customer complaints, inquiries, and suggestions by all Department Heads and store personnel.

·        Controls productivity and labor, margins, accidents, and all other controllable expenses to maximize store profitability and operational effectiveness.

·        Oversees the implementation and execution of Company merchandising programs and weekly sales plans to ensure proper inventory levels, in-stock positioning, availability of specials, sales plan fulfillment, store conditions and presentation.

·        Oversees the selection, hiring, training, and development of the store team and manages the Performance Management Process for direct reports.  Communicates performance objectives and manages to performance expectations for staff.  Manages a succession plan for the store and develops a diverse group of future Department Managers.

·        Forecasts weekly sales and staffing requirements, establishes labor goals, oversees scheduling of store labor, monitors department performance against budget daily, and coaches Department Heads to achieve productivity and customer service goals.

·        Routinely walks the store to evaluate and assess store conditions, stock levels, merchandising standards, staffing, and customer service levels.  Provides feedback to Department Heads and associates, coaches for improvement, and recommends solutions to operational problems identified.  Periodically walks the store with the District Manager and Merchandisers. Follows-through on recommendations and action plans.

·        Regularly analyzes and interprets P&L’s and other store and financial reports.  Identifies operational issues and negative trends, reviews results with store team, and collaborates on action plans to improve operating conditions and performance outcomes.

·        Conducts regular store and Department Head meetings to encourage effective communication and feedback from all associates and enhance total store morale.  Reviews results and initiates the development of team-based solutions to financial, operational, and customer service problems.  Rewards successes.

·        Monitors and ensures timely compliance with Company policies and procedures, operating directives and standards, and all applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

·        Conducts competitive store visits on a regular basis to monitor market trends, consumer behavior, and competitive intelligence.  Recommends localized initiatives to stimulate business performance.

·        Remains current on industry trends and consumer preferences and shares knowledge, information, and learnings with store team.

·        Promotes and encourages store-based initiatives designed to enhance the Company’s image in the marketplace as a supporter of community activities and social responsibility.

·        Develops and maintains effective working relationships with all internal and external partners. 

·        Manages positive labor and associate relations, minimizes the number of grievances, and escalates more serious issues to appropriate departments as necessary.

·        Manages relationships with regulatory agencies to reduce violations and fines.

·        Ensures that all customer and vendor relationships at store level reflect the Core Values of the Company.

·        Exhibits the highest degree of personal and professional integrity at all times, consistent with the Company’s Core Values, and demands equally high standards from the Store teams.

 

 

 

 

 

SPECIAL SKILLS, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE:

 

·        Bachelor’s Degree in Business preferred but not required

·        Minimum of 2 years of co-management experience in a supermarket retail environment

·        Strong leadership and team building skills

·        Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

·        Proven problem solving abilities and results orientation

·        Excellent planning and organizational skills

·        Strong commitment to and track record of providing outstanding customer service

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Office
